Analogue version
- 15 m start test: time swimmers from the start signal to when the head passes 15 m (use a cone on the deck). Test 3 starts and take the best.
- Entry hole: put a hoop or pool noodle ring on the water where a good entry lands. Swimmers try to enter "through one hole".
- Breakout marker: a cone on deck where the swimmer should break out. Compare with where they actually surface.
Coach notes Coaches only
- The model: 15 m time = reaction + time on the block + flight + underwater glide + swimming. More power = longer flight and faster entry. Entry angle around 35° keeps speed; too flat is a belly flop, too steep goes deep and slow.
- Breakout: the best moment is when your glide speed drops to your swimming speed. Too early wastes the glide; too late you slow down underwater.
- Rules: one false start = disqualification. Swimmers must surface by 15 m (freestyle, backstroke, butterfly).
- Stars: compared with a perfect start (0.18 s reaction, full power, 35°, perfect breakout). 3 stars = within 0.25 s, 2 stars = within 0.6 s.
