- Race-skills checklist: film or watch a race and score each part: reaction, start, underwater and breakout, pacing, each turn and the finish. Which part lost the most time?
- Broken race: swim a race in parts with short rests (e.g. 4 × 25 for a 100) to rehearse each part at race speed.

- What it combines: Start Reaction, Dive Start, Underwater Kick, Turn Master, Hit Your Splits and a finish touch, in one freestyle race in a 25 m pool against 7 computer swimmers.
- Opponents are set from a computer swimmer that does every part well (0.2 s reaction, good drive, good kicking, 1.9 m flips, quick pushes, clean finish and sensible pacing). In finals the field is closer.
- Common race lessons: sprinting the first length of a 200 costs the last 50; a slow push after every turn adds up; gliding into the finish can cost a place.
- Stars: 3 stars = win, 2 stars = top 3, 1 star = finish. False start or underwater past 15 m = disqualified.
