- Feet drill (pool): swim in pairs. The back swimmer stays on the feet, close enough to touch the toes every few strokes. Swap leaders every 50 m.
- Hip drill: in threes across the lane, the swimmer on the hip keeps their head level with the leader's hips.
- Surge whistle: the leader changes pace on the coach's whistle. The followers must react without losing the feet.
- Pack pass: groups of 4–6 swim 200 m together; the swimmer at the back must work their way to the front using the draft.
Coach notes Coaches only
- The model: on the feet (right behind a swimmer) you go 20% faster for the same effort; on the hip (beside, slightly behind) 10%. Faster efforts use much more energy. Bumping into swimmers costs energy and speed.
- The skill: get into the draft, then EASE OFF and let the leader do the work. Save energy to push when it matters: covering a surge, changing feet, or the finish.
- Picking feet: on Level 3 some swimmers are faster than others. Follow the faster feet.
- Turn buoy: the pack squeezes together. Swimmers who plan their position before the buoy avoid contact.
- Stars: 3 stars needs a good finishing position; 2 stars means finishing close to the winner.
- How to get 3 stars on each level shows in the answer panel under the game.
